Irian Jaya
The tape is
in a red BASF LGS 26 box with a spool of 10,2 cm and speed of 19 cm/sec. On the
tape are Sounds during the church service in Angguruk, Jalimo. There is loose
leaflet in the box which gives a short overview of the contents of the tape. It
starts with music recorded by Freerk Kamma among the Mai Brat, a very different
region, then follow radio messages, the sound of an airplane, at 3’06 follows a
percussion number, western no relation with West Papua at all, then at 5’07
sound of an airplane, Jali talking, at 7’17
a solo song by a Jali men, at 7’45 angklung and guitar instrumental tune no
relationship with West Papua at all, 11’47 Papua tifa song Biak style with
distortion, not from Jalimo, 13’57 solo song, 15’10church bell, 15’50 community singing with the
reverend clearly leading. Local Papua languages.
